Foot and Ankle
The human foot is a structure of bones and tissues combining structural strength and mechanical complexity needed for locomotion. The healthy foot can sustain an incredible amount of pressure and provide the entire body with a foundation of stability and support. When the foot is injured, normal movements such as walking and running can become nearly impossible. In order to preserve and assess the many complex motions that the foot provides, a high level of knowledge and experience is critical. The foot doctors at New Mexico Orthopaedics have the resources to address the many problems that feet may have in order to optimize your treatment outcome.

The ankle joint is formed at the intersection of the leg and foot and connects the distal ends of the tibia and fibula in the lower leg with the proximal end of the talus bone in the foot. The ankle joint is designed to allow dorsiflexion and plantar flexion, but is incapable of rotation. Three lateral ligaments and the deltoid ligament support the ankle joint and work to control its movement. Ankle sprains, pain, and joint deterioration are common with injury and age. The ankle specialists at New Mexico Orthopaedics can help you to address these and other ankle problems to get you back to your life.
